Collection Description

Historical Note

The Student Government Association (SGA) at the University of Georgia is the organized outlet for students that allows students to bring about change, protects the rights of every student, and improves the university.

In 1969, Price Corr, along with other students, was campaigning for a Student Senate seat and was eventually nominated to a seat as part of the Student Representative Assembly, which was one of the two parties involved in the political race, the second being the United Party platform. After the new senate president, Jim Panell, was elected in what seemed to be a rather close race between the parties, Price Corr was elected to serve as vice president for Student Senate for the 1969-1970 year. Later, Price Corr was also appointed in October by the senate president to be serve as chairman of a special committee to study athletic fees and ticket sales. The purpose of this comittee was to devise a new reserved seating plan for students at football games and to implement the sale of guest tickets for home games. Additionally, he was involved in a referedum that was held for a vote. This referendum proposed four consitutional changes - three of which would create new changes in the Student Judiciary and the fourth would create a new student cabinet position.

In 1970, when student elections rolled around, it was proposed at the Student Senate meeting that the Election Code needed to be revised. Price Corr was one of the students to suggest that the election code needed to contain infromation about when elections take place on campus. He proposed that the date needed to be moved from the third or fourth week in April to the third or fourth week of the spring quarter. Unfortunately, his proposal did not go through due to the lack of a quorum and it was defeated by a vote of 24 to 21. As a result, the election date was set for April 15. Another change that was up for vote was that of the student body constitution, which outlined new requirements for student government positions.

Following the student elections and the end of his term year as vice president, Price Corr was elected as president of the Senate on April 23, 1970 by a margin of two votes.
