Historical Note

Annie Reid Mackenzie, Mrs. John Franklin Humphrey (1878-1974) wrote a series of historical sketches on Burke County for the Waynesboro True Citizen, used in part in the books on Burke County written by Dr. Albert Hillhouse.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of five notebooks (four are disbound) containing handwritten lists and abstracts of deeds, wills, and naturalizations found in the Burke County Courthouse and the Georgia Department of Archives and History. The collection also includes The Chronicles of Burke 1977-1953, an unpublished manuscript on the history of Burke County, Georgia, by Annie Reid Mackenzie.
