This collection contains one letter and a small assortment of receipts found together. The letter is from Dr. Andrew M. Smith, likely the founder of the Susan Medical Center, Athens' first African American Maternity Hospital, and John Henry Deadwyler discussing his daily Army duties, friends and family, and the conditions for African American soldiers.
