The collection consists of correspondence, school notes, teaching material, printed material, cassette and reel-to-reel-tapes, and a number of scores in printed as well as working form. Also in this section are notes Gerschefski took while he studied under Joseph Schillinger, and scores both in printed and working form.

Biographical / historical:

Edwin Gerschefski )1901-1992) was a composer, pianist, and teacher. He studied at Yale University (1926-1931) and the Tobias Matthay Pianoforte School in London (1931-1933), and with the renowned pianist Artur Schnabel and the noted music theorist Joseph Schillinger. Gerschefski held the positions of dean of the music school at Converse College (1945-1959), head of the music department at the University of New Mexico (1959-1960), and head of the music department at the University of Georgia (1960-1980).
