The collection contains business and personal letters, deeds, ledgers, account books, letter books, promotional literature, house plans, pertaining to the descendants of and the property of Godfrey Barnsley and particularly the business records of B.F.A. Saylor.
The letters include those of Julia Barnsley Baltzelle; Charles Henry von Schwartz, second husband of Julia; Adelaide Baltzelle Saylor, daughter of Julia and her 1st husband, Captain James P. Baltzelle; B.F.A. Saylor, husband of Adelaide; and those of Harry Saylor and Preston Saylor, sons of Adelaide and B.F.A. Saylor. Preston Saylor was a prize fighter and fought under the name K.O. Dugan; Preston shot and killed his brother Harry Saylor in 1935.
The bulk of the collection falls within the years 1897-1911.

Godfrey Barnsley (1805-1872) was a very wealthy English consul and a Savannah agent for general import and export brokers of Liverpool, England. Barnsley built a summer home near Adairsville, Ga. called, first, "Woodlands" and later "Barnsley's Gardens." His granddaughter, Adelaide Baltzelle (1864-1942) (also the daughter of Julia Barnsley Baltzelle) married B. Francis Armington Saylor and lived at Barnsley's Gardens.
B. Franklin Armington Saylor was a geologist, mineralogist, and developer and promoter of resources in the South who resided in Rome, Floyd County, GA. He married Adelaide Baltzelle, with whom he had two sons, Harry Saylor and Preston Saylor, and a daughter Blanche. Preston Saylor became a prize fighter and fought under the name K.O. Dugan; Preston shot and killed his brother Harry Saylor in 1935.
